The most climate friendly website in the Netherlands based on 9 smart choices

The Wanicare Foundation and Kruso join forces to create the most climate friendly website in the Netherlands

The Wanicare Foundation and Kruso have joined forces and taken on the challenge of making the new Wanicare website the most climate friendly website in the Netherlands.

With this mission, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint not only of the website itself but also of its construction as much as possible. Every click has an impact. A single email is equivalent to a plastic bag.

That's why we are examining all aspects of platform development, from website hosting and animation loading to the energy consumption of your own device and project management with minimal emissions.

Wanicare exists because we want to protect animals and nature. That is why it is our ambition to do our work with the least possible impact on the planet, and that also applies to our digital footprint.

- Roel Jansen, Wanicare

We are focusing on an integrated approach to achieve our sustainability ambition through 9 smart choices:

  1. Green energy

We have ensured that our server runs on 100% green energy.

  2. Close to the user

By placing the server (cloud solution) close to the users, we reduce the distance data needs to travel.

  3. The short route

We are working on shortening the path from the website's server to the user.

  4. Lightweight

We are trying to make the website as lightweight as possible. Colors, photo formats.

  5. Necessity

To prevent waste, the website only contains the most essential pages.

  6. Easy display

We ensure that the website can be easily displayed on the PC.

  7. Online appointments

All appointments regarding the development of the website take place online.

  8. Centralization of documentation

All project documentation can be found online in one place.

  9. Cleaning up documentation

After the project is completed, the documentation is cleaned up.

Collaborating for a sustainable future

In the coming months, we will be working together on the realization of the new and sustainable website for Wanicare. Through smart choices, we aim to inspire organizations in the Netherlands to collectively make a significant difference for people, animals, and the planet.

Stay tuned!

Meet Wanicare

The Wanicare Foundation operates in West Java, Indonesia, at the Cikananga Wildlife Center, where they provide refuge for nearly 500 wild animals. These animals include orangutans, crocodiles, bears, various bird species, and leopards, most of which have been rescued from illegal wildlife trade or have lost their natural habitats.

Wanicare was founded in 2009 by Willemijn Eggen with the aim of rebuilding the Cikananga Wildlife Center and assisting in the mission to protect wildlife and nature. Today, Cikananga is home to a team of nearly 30 individuals, including caregivers, veterinarians, and education staff, who work tirelessly every day to care for the animals, facilitate releases, and carry out conservation projects. It has become a leading center for conservation and education.

Our take on climate friendliness

In the evolving digital landscape, we believe climate-friendliness is the way forward. For companies and organizations, it's essential to take a closer look at the carbon footprint of their web solutions. It's not just about environmental responsibility; it's also about fostering a sense of community, enhancing economic efficiency, and strengthening the brand.

We believe, embracing climate-friendly web solutions isn't just an eco-conscious choice; it's a strategic move that positively impacts performance, visibility, and user experience.
